I look after all couples who seek a Kauai Jewish wedding. Since I was raised Christian and converted to Judaism as an adult, I have personal experience working with interfaith families. It is also my privilege to work with couples in a same-sex relationship since that describes mine too.
Because I observe Shabbat, I am not able to marry you from sundown Friday until Saturday night. I will sometimes make exceptions for a late Saturday afternoon wedding.
A Kauai Jewish wedding ceremony has an equal mix of Hebrew and English. I will provide an English translation whenever Hebrew is used so everyone feels included. In addition, I will explain customs like “circling” and breaking the glass.
Plan for approximately one hour which includes the Ketubah signing, Bedeken, and Wedding ceremony. This also allows time for customized elements like the Hawaiian lei exchange or in the case of interfaith weddings, the addition of non-Jewish traditions.
Yes, as long as we come to an agreement on non-Jewish prayers or scripture readings from the New Testament.
I am available to travel anywhere in Hawaii, the mainland, or internationally.
After you contact me, I will schedule a Google Hangout meeting so we can get to know each other. It’s important for both of you to make that appointment. After that, I will send a questionnaire if you pick me as your officiant. That’s followed by a sample outline of the ceremony for you to look at so you can think about personal elements to add. Another Google Hangout is scheduled for us to talk about the ceremony you envision. After that, a more final version of the ceremony is sent and we can email comments back and forth with each other. If needed, we can schedule a third Google Hangout meeting. Once you arrive on Kauai, I will call you to go over any last minute details.
Two or three Google Hangout meetings. A customized ceremony prepared for you with your input. Unlimited email communication. Officiating at the Ketubah signing and Bedeken (30 minutes before ceremony) and at your wedding. If needed, I will provide a Kiddush Cup, wine, a glass to break and kippot.
Wedding coordination is not covered for photography, music, flowers, chairs, event rental, decorations, lei exchange and the Chuppah. Please note that if you select a beach wedding, there can be no chairs on the sand and the Chuppah must be hand held.
I lead Shabbat services for the Jewish Community of Kauai and am a life-cycle rabbi on the island. My approach to Judaism is progressive and liberal. It is my pleasure to work with interfaith families and couples.
Recent articles about me have appeared in Tablet Magazine, The Forward and Honolulu Civil Beat.
